Researchers from King's College London have investigated the relationship between dietary patterns and psoriasis severity. They analyzed data from over 1,000 adults with moderate to severe psoriasis, who completed a comprehensive food frequency questionnaire. The results showed that those who adhered to a diet rich in plant-based foods and low in saturated fats experienced significant reductions in psoriasis symptoms.
Specifically, the study found that individuals consuming higher amounts of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes had lower scores on the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), which is used to assess disease severity. In contrast, those who consumed more animal products and saturated fats exhibited higher PASI scores. The authors suggest that dietary factors may play a key role in modulating psoriasis symptoms, and that nutritional interventions could be explored as an adjunct to conventional treatments.
